The Nutcracker is my comfort café. It is a small and homely café located in Kala Ghoda, Mumbai. It has a community table, 4-5 regular tables and a dessert display as well. The relaxing ambience of the place is one of the factors that makes me want to visit it over and over again. Even though we cannot visit the café at the moment, they have a takeaway menu for everyone to enjoy the food. Luckily, all of my favourites are on that menu! The favourites listed below are in no particular order.
1. Spaghetti Pangrattato with Burrata
This is one of my recent finds at the Nutcracker but has easily become one of my favourites! The Nutcracker describes this dish as ‘Spaghetti tossed in garlic butter & a herbed crumb (pangrattato), topped with pesto smeared burrata’. It has everything you love about the classic Aglio Olio but is an upgraded version of it. It has tons of flavour; its spicy, garlic-y and the pesto adds freshness! The pangrattato adds texture and the burrata perfectly ties this dish together.
2. Meltdown
The Nutcracker describes this beverage as Salted Caramel Belgian Hot Chocolate. I describe it in two words: Liquid Gold. This is what you need on a rainy day when you’re cuddled up in a blanket binge watching your favourite show!
3. Asian Salad
This isn’t your regular everyday salad, its quite unique. The Nutcracker describes this dish as ‘Zucchini, raw papaya, carrots, mint, coriander, peanuts, red chilli-lemon-garlic dressing’. This is my mom’s go-to order at the café. You can also add some grilled tofu or a boiled egg to it. It’s a zingy, spicy salad with great texture. The crunch from the peanuts really makes this an enjoyable dish to eat. It’s a great meal for one along with a beverage on the side.
4. Buttermilk Pancakes
I can eat breakfast dishes at anytime of the day! If you’re like me, The Nutcracker has a vast variety on their All Day Breakfast Menu! One of my favourites from that menu are the buttermilk pancakes. There are four variants to choose from however I prefer the Belgian Chocolate Chip Buttermilk Pancakes. You are served two pancakes with dark chocolate chips, pancake syrup and melted butter. These are by far the fluffiest and best pancakes I’ve eaten in Mumbai!
5. Bagel & Cream Cheese
Another favourite of mine from the All Day Breakfast menu! I don’t need to say much about this classic. It’s simple but yet stands out on the menu! There are three bread options to choose from for the bagel: classic / multigrain / caramelised onion. The Everything Bagel on their menu is next on my list!
